大家可能也会问，日常使用表达“以…为准”时，用这些法律专用词会不会显得太装逼太严肃？
是的，这四个词里prevail, control, govern都是针对法律语境的特殊用法，强行用在日常表达里会有些格格不入。
还有一个最大的问题是，有些没接触过法律英语的或者受教育程度不高的老外不知道prevail/control/govern能表达这个意思。
这四个词汇里，只有take precedence比较中性一点，即可以用于法律语境，也可以用日常语境，大部分人都能听得懂。
这里说说precedence这个词，它表示“居先的”、“优先的”，就是priority的意思。
我们可能见过unprecedented这个词，表示“前所未有的”，和precedence是来自同一词源。
还有predecessor表示“前任”，当然不是指男女朋友的“前任”（这里用ex-），而是指某个岗位的“前任”，和successor（继任者）是反义词。
回到take precedence的用法，我们经常会遇到这种情况，客户既发了图纸(drawing），又给你一份规格书(specifications），两份文件有些地方不一样，你想知道，到底以哪个为准？
如果你问Which one prevails/controls/governs?，就会奇怪，老外第一反应是what are you saying?
如果你问Which one takes precedence? 则完全没问题，这里的take也可以换成have，即Which one has precedence？
英文合同里，还有一个专门的术语叫 order of precedence，用于定义文件的优先次序。因为做一个大型项目时，要签很多合同、协议、意向书、规格、图纸等等，但人无法避免会犯错，会导致这些文件之间可能会有冲突的地方，所以提前定义好如果出现冲突时，以哪份文件为准。

其他情况的“以...为准”。
1）直接用be correct/latest/final/standard表示。
我们再来说说，如果是写邮件的时候发现第一封邮件写错，想要大家忽略第一封邮件，以第二封邮件“为准”，怎么说呢？
这里不能用prevail/control/govern/take precedence，因为第一封邮件错了就是错了，没有谁优先的问题，一般老外都是直接 Please disregard my previous email as there was an error in it. This one is correct.

记住啊，这里的“以…为准”，就是直接说“This one is correct"。
如果是某个图纸的版本很多，不知道以哪个版本为准，经过多次确认后，找到个一个版本，你告诉别人，“以这份为准”，这里是说 This drawing is the latest。
如果是表达“以我说的为准”，这里是涉及到最终决定，是用final表示，This is final。
国家统计局英文版官网有《中华人民共和国统计法》的英文版，其中有一句话：
- 国家统计数据以国家统计局公布的数据为准。
这句话的翻译如下，用的是standard：
- Statistical data published by the National Bureau of Statistics shall be the standard data.
2）be dependent on
这里用于表示前面是暂定或未定，不能作为最终依据，要依赖于其他情况才能确定。
- Quantities will be dependent on the actual configuration
- 数量以实际的配置为准。
3）图片仅供参考，以实物为准怎么翻译？
国人的经典翻译是The picture is for reference only, subject to the actual product。你中招了吗？
我在外网搜了一圈，发现全是中国公司运营的跨境电商在这么说，老外没有这样用的。
因为subject to这样用太奇怪了，subject to是指“受到...的影响”，老外一般指会说subject to change（产品可能会更改）。
我们不要看字面，来看看这句话里“以实物为准”是什么意思。这里的“为准”和前面所有的例子意思都不一样，并不是指实物才是标准的，而是指实物和图片会不一样。只要明白这个意思，就按照这个意思翻译就没错了。

核心部分在于，actual product may vary/differ，都是表示实际产品可能有变动，大家以后按照这个方式翻译就没错了。
中文的“以...为准”其实是一个模糊的概念，在不同语境的意思不一样，不能强行用某一个标准翻译去套用，有些小伙伴查字典找到Please refer to这个表达，但其实这是表达“请查阅。。。”，并没有完全暗示这份是准确的，有些情况就不适用，不如用"Pease follow ...”，以上几种情况都能适用，不过带一点点祈使语气，面向客户或者老板时就不妥了，这时还是用回以上的 This one is correct/latest/final/standard比较好。
